Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away (千と千尋の神隠し) is the main inspiration for this design project. The train scene in the movie is one of the most impressive cinematic experience and such successful storytelling in my opinion. Makes you lose track of time and reality. That is why I decided to use this captivating work of art for my project idea.
The goal of this design project is to give the right directions to the user who wants to go to the Zeniba’s House at the Swamp Bottom. This journey is both physical and a spiritual trip. While designing the project basis it was really important to reflect the idea in the right way. At the very beginning of finding the medium for this experience, the best way in my opinion was to design something physical rather than a digital medium. The user's trip to Zeniba’s House is a one way trip with no pause at the journey. That means it is a one-way trip. So the design includes a beginning and an endpoint. Inspired by train station maps I used a simple white line with dots at each end representing the two stops. This is a self-exploratory journey so the line is represented as a fine line but the inner experience might have its twist and turns.
