J.Doe is a unique experience that mixes a criminal drama with an immersive and personal experience.

J.Doe suicides shooting himself in the head; as he does this extreme act a woman and three men somehow feels it and are in shock and awe. The plot revolves around this four characters and the actions they've done in the week prior to J.Doe's suicide. The whodunnit unfolds as the user follows the events and actions that lead him to discover the truth about the cause of the suicide.

 

This movie will take advantage of the latest technologies and will be based on the enactive cinema experience analyzed by Pia Tikka. These will be set in a purpose-built booth, the "suicide booth" which enhances the single-player experience, with different biometric sensors such as an eye tracker and a heart rate sensor.

 

The eye tracker will be useful to understand, and successfully analyze, which characters will receive more attention from the user. In a similar way the heart beat sensors will memorize the unconscious reactions that the user has (connecting this with the eye data) when he sees different actions on the screen.

 

This "stolen" data will be reflected in what happens in the story. As a matter of fact what seems to be a standard linear movie experience is a multilinear and partially hypertexted narration. The stored data will be confronted with the expected average reaction; when shown images will cause strange pulse attitude the computer will keep track of it and maybe change (depends on the actual event and rate, if higher or lower) the actions or the feeling of some characters.

 

The story can be visualized as an option tree; every user will live the story in a different way giving more purpose to some actions than others. Every character will have a central storyline (along with his personal goal and his obstacles) to develop but not every story will be presented in each iteration of the movie. Some stories could even bring to the death of one of the characters or his leaving the place of action.

 

Each of the four characters will follow a loop idea in which the starting point will describe them in a difficult and despairing position, could it be socially, economically or in personal. Throughtout the plot they will have the chance of redemption but this chance will be -for one particularly- inevitably be lost, and the only way to brake the vitious circle will be through suicide or sacrifice.
