Mural of Gauchito Gil / Croatia

Mural of Antonio Gauchito Gil
Antonio Gauchito Gil was Argentinian "Robin Hood" who lived as an outlaw in the 1800s after refusing to fight in the military in a civil conflict. This legendary Argentinian outlaw became a folk saint because of his deeds – stealing with his gang from the rich and giving to the poor.

Today, Gauchito is praised like a „people's saint“, as a protector of the poor, oppressed, and all people who are living on the margins of society.

While many believers in Gauchito Gil are Catholics, the Roman Catholic Church does not recognize him as a saint. Also, his little shrines near roads are full of cigarettes and booze (unlike common catholic saints shrines) which are artifacts that are people leaving him for gratitude.

Unfortunately, photos of realization process and the final mural are in low resolution.

Mural was realized on Klet Art Jam (K.A.J), Zagreb 2021
