Miskolc Cultural Hub
Theme of Master project: "Lack of flexibly usable spaces that are suitable for cultural events in Miskolc, Hungary a rural city with 150.000 inhabitants."
Miskolc is a former center of steel production in North-East Hungary, today with a decreasing population shrinking back to its natural size after the immense industrial boom of the 1980s. As a result of the city’s history, it lacks flexibly usable cultural spaces, even thought the demand is very present, and several self-initiated groups have appeared in the last few years organizing such events.
Architectural Program
Location
The site is the very city center of Miskolc, with numerous historical buildings, and a currently not so well working public square. Through the design process the whole block and square was examined as a whole, revealing the historical texture of the area.
As a result I proposed a revitalization concept for the square as well.
The basement level accommodate rehearsal rooms, workshop rooms, storage rooms
The main spaces - event space, entrance, gallery - are located on the ground floor with intensive connection to the inner garden and the square. They are connected by movable walls, to maximize flexibility.
On the first floor there are workshop and studio rooms and the office which are hanging above the vast space of the ground floor.
