MELTING GLACIERS
Glaciers are melting faster, losing 31 percent more snow and ice per year than they did 15 years earlier.

The evaluation of aerial photos shows that around 0.18 km2 or 0.02% of the entire Swiss glacier area is currently covered by geotextiles. Snow and ice melt under the white tarpaulin by 60% less than next to it. Using this technology, up to 350,000 m3 of glacier ice was initially preserved across Switzerland.
Using 20 years of recently declassified satellite data, scientists calculated that the world’s 220,000 mountain glaciers are losing more than 328 billion tons of ice and snow per year since 2015.
