Sound Garden is an architectural extension of a young entrepreneur's residence. The concept was to transform the once timid space into a meaningful one to linger and live in. It was designed mostly in wood, composite, concrete and gravels.
The main feature, the window louvres, was designed based on the sound wave of the deceased father's voice. I was looking for a metaphor, and we stumbled on an old cassette with the deceased father's voice on it. He had been a very crucial part of this family, and the owner agreed instantly when I told him I would use his voice in my design.
I converted the voice from the cassette to MP3 using the cassette deck, got into Audacity to analyze the wave form. Later, the model of the louvres was mapped on the form of the sound wave. The fence alternate pattern was designed as repetitive rhythm as to complement the lyrical gesture within and to introduce poetic shadow into the space.
