The project presents a narrative of hand-fetishism and voyeurism which seeks to subvert standard depictions of the female-centric male gaze. It draws on a classic example of female objectification in fiction, John Fowles’s “The Collector”, pairing quotes from the text with photography which juxtaposes notions of the objecti-fication of the novel’s central female character with imagery which does the same to a male, “faceless” subject of the photographer’s own voyeuristic inclinations.
