In what city/state was your first house located and approximately what year did you buy it?

Atlanta, GA

What was your living situation prior to buying your first house? Where/with whom/etc?

An apartment at Post Properties on Delk Road in Marietta, GA.

What motivated you to purchase your first house?

I was engaged and my fiance’ and I decided it was time to own our first home. We loved the neighborhood in Midtown Atlanta named Ansley Park and began to look there.

How did you go about getting the money together to buy it?

Savings from two jobs.

When you purchased, were you thinking of it as an investment or as a place to start a family?

Both, the Ansley Park area of Atlanta was very sought after and although we planned to have a family, we also knew what a great investment it would be.

What did you like best about the house?

1: Of course, location, location, location! It was close to everything including our favorite Thai restaurant Nan Fine Dining.

2: It had been updated with a great new kitchen and the addition of a huge master suite looking out on the Dell.

3: The home had huge trees and lots of privacy.

Was there anything you didn’t like about it?

Nothing, the house was wonderful and everything that we had hoped for in our first home.

Did you make any improvements or renovations?

No, the renovation was complete.

Please share your memories from living there.

After a few years, we sold it. The next family completed yet another renovation virtually changing it from a cottage to a much larger home.

Do you still live there?

[renting]

Any advice for first time home buyers?

The most important thing I would tell first-time home buyers is not to put all your cash into your home. There are so many other expenses that will become known and being cash strapped will dampen what is otherwise a wonderful experience: owning your first home!
