The Bubble Wand Book is a 9 x 9 board that features a removable bubble wand that plays five songs!
The idea of adding a musical bubble wand to a book is one that I had been presenting for several years. This early iteration had three interchangeable wands that snap into a handle. All pieces are zip-tied to the book at retail. This would have required a platform beneath the top wand to prevent crushing in transit.
Another early concept was to include a motorized bubble maker with the book. Although I knew this would be more expensive, it would've been pretty cool! This music-note shaped bubble maker has a plastic clip on the book so that the bubble maker can be reattached to the book.
I made several changes when I reintroduced the idea recently: now all pieces are held in a vac form tray with a clear lid for a much cleaner look, and each button plays two songs.
A couple of challenges resulted in this less-than-satisfactory design: the book must now fit into our 9 x 9 line, and the printer informs us that they need 10 mm of flange on the tray for gluing. The result is a book that is taken up by a LOT of tray. And we get a fairly stumpy wand.
Because we are having difficulties with cost, I am asked to try a design at an 8 x 8 trim size. That leaves us with this equally imperfect design, where the wand is removed from the handle, and must be inserted by the user after purchase.
I'm also asked to take another look at the motorized design, this time as part of a boxed set. I really do like this one, but unfortunately the motor puts this beyond our price range.
Here's an updated attempt to keep all three wands by using zipties and a platform to hold everything in place. But the additional wands are proving too costly to keep.
After discussion with our sales team, it is decided that we don't need the extra wands. This drawing essentially shows our final specs: a 9 x 9 book with a two-color sound module that has one wand, five songs, and a two-ziptie attachment to the book.
