These works began as figure studies, I was basically watching a lot of kung fu movies and doing figure sketches of some more extreme poses and gestures. Eventually, I had several sketchbook pages full of 'neat' little figures and I decided to take the figures and set them in the most cliché kung fu settings I could imagine, because I like that sort of thing. I decided on 'bamboo forest dojo' and 'cherry blossom waterfall' and just started working. I was really happy with what came out of it, and ended up doing CMYK screen prints of the images as well, however the Xante platemaker I used to print color separations left a lot of blemishes on the transparencies, resulting in some less than stellar final products.
