Reconciliation with death

To become reacquainted with death, this thesis discusses the cognition of death through a multidisciplinary lens, which includes philosophy, social phenomenology, emotional and physiological psychology, and theology. Using grounded theory, the analysis begins by identifying the root of the contemporary fear of death, and the reasons we strive to escape its reality. It then examines alternative ideologies and the accessibility of other possible practices that can be adopted which promote a greater acceptance of mortality. Further, this paper reconsiders the relationship between mortality and technology, and discusses how technology can be a platform for new rituals that facilitate reconciliation with death.
