As part of my six-week study abroad experience in Rome, Italy, I took a digital photography class. For our final project, we were asked to shoot images surrounding a theme of our choice. I chose to explore the artistic depiction of divinity in ancient Roman churches.

There is something about the beauty of ancient churches that leaves many of us speechless and somewhat overwhelmed. I have always been fascinated by this feeling. The time and energy that kings and popes put into creating these exquisite sanctuaries is breathtaking to me.

Going to Rome gave me the perfect opportunity to explore the art and architecture that has influenced entire cultures and nations for centuries. My goal was to capture the elements of churches that force us to stop and stare in admiration.
