Bioindicators Eco Atlas is the third book of Russian Seas Ecology series that I've illustrated.
Every Atlas is a result of advanced research and contains extensive data, analysed by ecologists, biologists, hydrometeorologers, oceanologists, physiographers, and other researchers.
My part in this project was to create a set of 32 scientific illustrations, one for each species of mammals, birds, plants and algae.

Hyas araneus
one of my favourite duck-like birds is a Common eider (Somateria mollissima);
I was lucky to observe this species in the wild, where the eiders gave me a hard time trying to get close enough to get a picture (spoiler alert, I didn't, the birds are easily spooked)

process of working on illustration sometimes include color change or proportion adjustments. here I've made the top fish green instead of ochre, muted pattern and closed the jaw on the bottom fish
