死 (Si) - Death.

Artworks Inspired by my grand father who recently passed away.

Specifically, those are not painted.
Those are beated by my grand father's significant Japanese brush with sumi ink.

This series is composed of 4 canvases, which beated by also 4 times each.

死 (Si) literaly means death in Japanese but also means number 4.

When I got an email from my father about my grand father's death, I was in San Francisco. There is 17 hours time difference between Japan and SF. I wanted to know exactly when he passed out in SF time and soon figured out it was 10pm SF time. I was in my room and heard the cracking sound from outside. I looked out of the window and saw my coffee table I left in daytime was just split in two. Some drunken guys jumped on and broke it. I'll never forget the sound and decided to beat the canvas with his brushes.
