The Confucian Fung-Hwangs

The Confucian Fung-Hwangs
University Brief

For this particular brief I was asked to look in the Brewer’s Dictionary and choose a word that began with the letter “F” and create at least 4 images representing the chosen word.
While I was documenting the F section, I came upon “Fung-Hwang” (the Chinese Phoenix). Besides its complex meanings in the Chinese culture, it was also said that it has inscribed on its body the 5 virtues of Confucianism.
Therefore, I decided to create 5 versions of “Fung-Hwang”, each of them representing one virtue.
YI (義), the virtue of justice.
ZHI(智), the Fung-Hwang of knowledge
REN (仁), the virtue of altruism
Xin (信), the virtue of faithfulness
