The Junction's Past and Future Collide

The third in my planned series of neighbourhood scenes around Toronto. I've been itching to do this scene in The Junction where I live. Once a stockyard, the area developed as the town of West Toronto until its incorporation into the city in 1909. Since the late 2000's it's become a trendy neighbourhood, gentrifying at an accelerated rate in the past four years alone. Inevitably, as with much of the city right now, condo development is certain to encroach. I wanted to capture something of the neighbourhood's developing culture while expressing the fear of too much change too soon, a fear that currently extends to much of the city.
The completed drawing, measuring in at 30x20 inches.
The drawing under development.
