Dema, literally meaning "Tower of Silence", is a fictional location set inside of Trench that draws its name from Zoroastrianism.

Dema was a place Tyler created, it's a prison guarded by nine bishops, Nico, Andre, Keons, Sacarver, Listo, Vetomo, Nills, Lisben, and Reisdro. Each bishop represents something in the prison of some people's minds, for example Nico represents the worst of the worst, Depression.

The entirety of the city of Dema is a metaphor for mental illness, while its high walls exemplify the complexity of conquering depression. Clancy might be a representation of Tyler because of his own struggles with mental illness as well as his desire to save others from the grip of depression

The city of Dema follows a religion known as 'Vialism', which has the main principle of glorifying suicide.

The purpose of the open air structure is to allow scavenger birds access to the corpses inside, so that the flesh may be stripped from the bodies true to the Zoroastrian belief that earth and fire is sacred and should not be contaminated by the dead.

The outside of Dema is all graves because…It’s presented to people in Dema that this [suicide] is a good thing like this is what your goal is–to try to impact and affect as many people as you can and then ultimately this is your final act.

“Neon Gravestones” attacks society’s practice of glorifying those who have committed suicide, and romanticizing the idea of taking your own life.

Yellow, traditionally, is considered to be the most positive color of the lot, representing happiness and motivation as well as a sense of renewal. That very much captures the themes of Trench.

East is Up
It's a reference to the sun rising in the east? A shout out to Truce's line "the sun will rise and we will try again".
