PORSCHE MISSION R INTERIOR DESIGN // IAA Munich 2021
On September 6th 2021 Porsche AG presented the concept study Mission R at the IAA international Auto show in Munich. A progressive fully electric concept car made for motorsport. I was responsible for designing the interior of the Porsche Mission R from the first sketch to the finished fully drivable Showcar. The design ideation started with a clear story. The younger generations of race drivers and our future customers are growing up in a hybrid world (virtual-physical). They experience Porsche race cars both in virtual games and on the real racetrack. With Mission R we are bridging the gap between virtual (simulator) racing and the real world racing.
One of the main highlights of the Mission R interior is the so-called Driver Module. The driver module is a High-tech cocoon, shaped around the driver. It contains all the necessary Control elements and driving instruments. This module can also be customized as a stand-alone racing Simulator. In this way, the less experienced drivers can first practice in a virtual environment before getting behind the wheels of the Porsche Mission R on a real racetrack.
This sketch shows the Driver Module in the car and as a stand-alone training Simulator. The Ergonomics, control instruments and the human-machine interaction (HMI) will be all identical in both the Mission R race car and the Mission R training Simulator.
