OCADO Collaborative Project
As part of my Final Year in University, I carried out a collaborative University Project alongside the head of design at OCADO Retail. This essentially took the form of a client project, finishing stages in the design process and constantly presenting my findings for feedback, improvement and development.
Through first-hand observations and secondary research, I mapped out the entire, general delivery process in order to find gaps and possible issues regarding on-the-job practice. This allowed me to decipher any problems that may occur during this process, which allowed me to carve out design opportunities to further develop this existing product.
The overall delivery process, and my conclusion of that section allowed me to identify key issues which I can then use to fuel my design proposal and final concept, which would then be presented to the client.
Shown above is essentially a layout of how the driver would have to carry out their deliveries, as best practice, taking into account the use of the given safety equipment (the trolley).
Relating to the initial delivery process, this is an updated one taking into account the new trolley concept, as well as the new location of the trolley. As you can see, it significantly reduces movement and in turn, speeds up the overall delivery times benefitting both OCADO as well as the consumers.
This is the final design, a foldable trolley and collapses into a rather small form factor. This allows for ease of storage at the back of the delivery van, removing the need to take the equipment from the passenger side. This foldable concept also allows for ease of portability which makes the entire process much easier for the driver.
