Fundraising Event: Gold Rush

Project:

One-night event that raised $10k for the emergency transport of Hollis Hawthorne, a San Francisco artist who was brain injured in India. The event, which was planned in less than a week, featured music, performance, live and silent auctions, merchandise sales, and professional set design.

Role:

As the event's co-creator and manager, I developed the name ("Gold Rush" to reflect the artist's favorite color as well as the urgency of raising money) and concept (a variety show of the artist's favorite local acts interspersed with performances by the dance troupes she co-created), recruited support staff (stage manager, backstage assistants, merch booth attendants, etc.), found and booked the venue (Slim's), solicited donations from local businesses and artists for the live and silent auction, oversaw all publicity and press (including conducting an on-screen interview with KTVU), coordinated the building of sets by One Hat One Hand (famous for their windmill sculptures at Outside Lands) and art auction by Black Rock Arts Foundation curators, and managed performances by auctioneer (and local celebrity) Chicken John, Extra Action Marching Band, Gooferman, Conspiracy of Venus (all womens' a capella choir), Melvin Occasio (shadow puppeteer), Gilded Rooks, and the Valerie Orth Band.
