Flower Market at China Basin, SF
Class project in Spring of 2010, I was asked to create a new flower market in San Francisco to replace the existing flower market on Brannan Street in the SOMA district. The circulation of the flower market will allow people to flow freely between the different pavilions of locally grown flowers and plants. The pattern of the circulation is an extension of the cities grid in the underdeveloped China Basin neighborhood. I was inspired by an exhibit at the de Young where local flowers and plants were displayed and the combination of their colors is the pattern I created with the windows. Some of the window areas would act as garage doors to allow flowing of air as well as easy access to flower trucks setting up their stands.
