On Sunday, World No.71 Camila Giorgi from Italy won the women’s singles event at The National Bank Open presented by Rogers at the IGA Stadium.
She played against Karolína Plíšková ranked no. 4 in the world and won 6-3, 7-6.
As a result, she gained her third professional title and her first WTA 1000 crown - making her the first Italian woman since Flavia Pennetta to win such a prestigious championship.
She also happens to be the first Italian player to win in Canada.
