The National Bank Open presented by Rogers is a prestigious professional tennis tournament organized by Tennis Canada. Montreal and Toronto are virtually combined events, hosting the best men’s and women’s players in the world, and both tournaments are played at the same time during the same week.

Since 1881 for the men and 1892 for the women, the best players in the world have showcased their skills on Canadian courts. Only Wimbledon and the US Open have longer histories than this major Canadian stop, which is acknowledged by the tennis world to be one of the best-run tournaments on the Tour. Classified as a 1000-level event on both the ATP and WTA calendars, the National Bank Open attracts the biggest stars in tennis year after year.

On Sunday, World No.71 Camila Giorgi from Italy won the women’s singles event at The National Bank Open presented by Rogers at the IGA Stadium.

She played against Karolína Plíšková ranked no. 4 in the world and won 6-3, 7-6.

As a result, she gained her third professional title and her first WTA 1000 crown - making her the first Italian woman since Flavia Pennetta to win such a prestigious championship.

She also happens to be the first Italian player to win in Canada.
