Concept;
This series explores by using photography and illustration to emphasize the motion and vibrance of the garments highlighting the model and dancer Jesse Callaert’s exemplary body control. We collaborated last year but this year we wanted to take everything we have learned and experienced to elevate this project to a more cultural direction.
This series explores both physical and virtual barriers. The base photography by Kendrick Dettmers is part of a limited series sculpted around clothing offered by a local boutique Concrete Den Haag. The goal was to emphasize the motion and vibrance of the garments highlighting the model and dancer Jesse Callaert’s exemplary body control.
Having previously worked together on similar interdisciplinary projects where Kevin builds on central elements of the photography and subjects through vibrant graphics, Kendrick approached Kevin Rooi to bring his graphic touch to the work. This time a new challenge was posed: how could Kevin blend his own self-developed typographic style into abstract forms? Typography developed to visualize his home language of Aruba, Papiamento.
