UI UX Design: Let's Park Application

PROJECT BRIEF

This project is an application that helps drivers in the Abu Dhabi emirate of UAE to find parking spots and pay parking fees effectively.

- The application should be a mobile-first approach.
- The app should be able to find empty parking spots in an area.
- The app should also have the feature to pay parking fees.
- The app should show where exactly the car is parked
- The target audience is people who drive in Abu Dhabi.

PROBLEM

In Abu Dhabi, at least 50,000 cars shuttle daily and nearly half of them look for parking rooms.
The problems that arise because of it are :

- The time spent looking for the right parking and paying the parking fees.
- The traffic jams created by cars during peak hours

Let's Park
is going to make your parking experience so much better as it will:

- Help you find public parking spots easily by turning on your location while using the app.
- Pay for parking fees on your phone by redirecting you to the Mawaqif page.
- Integrating the map system into the application.
- Help you remember where you have parked your car.

RESEARCH

After understanding the the basic idea of the project, submitting the proposal and setting the priority list, I started the research process by conducting surveys and interviews. Below is the data obtained in the form of information visualization and user personas.

User Personas, three were created after conducting both survey and interviews.

With the user research complete I conducted a SWOT Analysis on two applications – easypark and way app to explore new possibilities.

OBJECTIVE

The objective of this project is to design a parking assistance application and market it using poster design advertisement in a month's time for drivers in Abu Dhabi. The app should be able to show the location of an empty parking spot along with the road map and parking fees options.

SCOPE

- A strong user base as many are interested in giving this app a try.
- This application will work on multiple devices (phone, and smartwatches).
- This application will act as a one-stop app for the user as we have a find empty parking spot, pay parking fees, and map system features all in one app.
- Premium option to reserve parking spots ahead of time.

COMPETITORS ADVANTAGE

- Provide a more user-centric design for better navigation.
- Create a better user interface design in terms of colors and icons used.

STRATEGY

- The application will be designed using the mobile-first approach as the target audience prefer mobile phones over other devices.
- The app will be designed using the user-centric approach to create a highly usable application for the users.

UNIQUE FEATURES

- Feature to inform user about traffic ahead of time.
- An optimal map system for easy access for user while driving.
- The app will have a feature parking time and parking spot location to help user better.

After defining and understanding the pain points and scope I created a mindmap and collected images for my mood board.

After that I created the sitemap and user flow  to better understand the application screens and user navigation.

Below is the user flow of two scenarios:

1. New User signing into the app
2. An existing user finding a parking and making the payment

To start the design process I first designed a logo for the application and modified the typeface to suit the logo better. I also created a stylescape to form a foundation for the screen designs and other deliverables.

WIREFRAME

After completing the design system, I created the wireframes of the screens.

These are the screens with the wireframing after the design.

DESIGN DRAFT

Logo and 3 onboarding screens.

Sign up, login, verification and location screens.

Map, payment, messages and menu screens.

Below is the hi-fidelity prototype of the application which was designed using Figma.

After designing the application, I also designed a few advertisement posters for newspaper and social media to reach more users.

This was challenging but also an interesting one-month project. I was able to research extensively and talk to many people about their concerns regarding the parking availability in Abu Dhabi. I wanted to design a minimal and user friendly application for this particular UI UX project and with that I could also explore different tools and plugins on Figma.
