Pillar Mural | Cloud Forest | Sourced Group (2021)

This was final Mural I had the pleasure to work on for Sourced Group Singapore office~!
As this mural was planned to be in the central open work area of the office, I went for a more nature oriented concept that will echo the relaxing aura of the potted plants around the office. It was not to be jarring or distracting in a office environment, but still offer a sense of artistic reprieve when employees look up from their work.

In keeping with the Singapore theme, I chose the cloud forest as the subject matter.

I used photos I took there as reference, as well as a photo I found online, taken by photographer Matteo Colombo - that was the one that mainly informed my composition.
The choice of colors was again emphasizing their company brand colors, but varying the combination from the 2 previously completed murals (link at the end). This was the final design I initially settled upon:
Below was the design process. One of the main challenge of this mural was the density of plants. While we want to keep the textural richness from the plants, the amount of compressed details can easily become too oppressive and distracting. Thus, a key part of the designing process was to open some "gaps" or breathing room so that the flow of the design will be more pleasing.
The thing about this design though, was that although it was initially planned for one of the wider white open walls of the office (as in first 3 mock up below), I designed it with plenty of space to spare, as looking at the interior of the office I did not think it will be suitable to have a design cover up an entire wall.

Given the size and furnishing of the office, I really felt it important to leave some openness in the wider white areas.
I even explored the idea of having the mural entirely "framed" to give the effect of looking out a window.

However, as we experimented, we surprisingly found the composition best fit the narrow wall area in the last 2 pictures above, but was that area was rather to the side of the office and blocked by a similar sized pillar in front, I suggest moving the mural to the pillar (first image below) so that it will be more feel less squished in a corner, but instead be more central, visible and decorative.

Following that decision, some amendments were made to the mural design to better suit the final location (Second image below).
The mock up was approved, and we move onto the actual painting progress:
Given my experience from the previous 2 murals, the painting process itself actually went quite smoothly, and this was the final result:
After its completion, I was informed that due to some changes in the company we will not move forward with any other mural designs for now, so it concludes my work with them for now.

But it has been a pleasure working with them and I learnt and grew a lot as an artist from this project~

In fact, I will be making one more post of some designs I did for them that did not materialize in the end, but I am still very proud of. Look forward to sharing those~!
