Name Everything for the First Time
This piece was done for The Poetry Foundation to accompany a story about Marie Uguay, a French-Canadian poet whose career was cut short when she passed away at age 26.

This project hit close to home in many ways. Having grown up, like Uguay, in the Sud-Ouest of Montreal and currently being the age she was when she passed, her work resonated with me in a special way. A degree of separation is to be expected between a reader and a writer — either in physical space, age, written language or cultural understanding. The absence of such a gap made the experience of reading her poetry relatable in a way that I have not often experienced.
