The Difference between the Supercars and Hypercars

For nearly two decades, Stephen Patrick Day has served as president and CEO of Logistics Group International (LGI) in Houston, Texas. Outside of his professional endeavors, Stephen Day is interested in supercars and hypercars.

The words 'supercar' and 'hypercar' are sometimes used interchangeably but are different in design, performance, and rarity. Supercars are world-class automobiles, while hypercars push the boundaries of possibility. A supercar is designed to deliver speed in style. They do this often by improving on iterations of an older design. A hypercar usually leans more towards speed than style. Engineers and designers favor aerodynamics in hypercars more than style, causing them to look weird to some drivers. Consequently, hypercars are typically faster than supercars.

However, both vehicles are made in relatively limited numbers. For example, only about 7,900 Ferrari California T supercars were released, while the LaFerrari hypercar had just about 500 produced. While both are rare, hypercars are much harder to find and more expensive to own.
