Visual culture Artifact
For my cultural artifact, I took a photo and edited it in Photoshop and Illustrator to show some of South Africa's diversity, emotions and future.

My artifact hopes to reflect on and communicate -
South African culture.
Incorporate aspects of my lived experience.
Critically engage with themes of humanity and ubuntu.
Be elegant and beautifully crafted

Rationale
My concept for this artifact was that you are a mosaic of everything you've ever loved before, I thought that was a beautiful saying. So, I took my thinking further to, what do I love about South Africa and the people or cultures I've been introduced to, how do they inspire me, how have the people I've met made me feel loved or accepted.

In my final artifact, I decided on taking photos of myself and finding images of things I love in South Africa. I used photoshop and illustrator to edit the different aspects of the image I chose onto a picture of my face. I used images like animals, the ocean and mountains, everything I've experienced living in South Africa, and everything I love about being South African. This artifact was a fun experience for me using techniques and ways of thinking differently from what I've ever tried before.

The landscapes and oceans have been a big part of my life, growing up here and traveling to those destinations, that has shown me to love my environment and to try and take better care of it. The animals represent my love for animals and specifically the big five. Using the bright colors of our flag and some fun elements like the lines and the dots to show that even though we are all different in South Africa we found a home, a place where we can look forward to being a better place in the future. Yes, we all have our struggles and differences, but that doesn't mean that we can't try and make each day a little better than before.
