STREET MURALS
/// 2 freestyle murals created in the abandoned "Ice Palace" in Kiev, Ukraine.

I wanted to do a piece on the streets for while now and what’s better than the huge empty stadium with so many walls and textures. From the street it looked massive, I wasn’t even sure that we could climb inside. But after a few minutes we found a small and easy way around. When we came in, the atmosphere was stunning, the size of it inside seemed even bigger than the outside.

We walked around for like 15 minutes and spotted a perfect wall to create on. The next moment I’m already pouring the paint and preparing the brush for the first piece.

.ПРОШЛОЕ — НАСТОЯЩЕЕ — БУДУЩЕЕ.

It’s dedicated to the time itself and the changes it brings. The text is in Russian as being in Kiev I decided to connect with the city more throughout the language. It says — “Past Present Future”:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Past — this abandoned building, left in the past and remains as a history only.
Present — me during the process of writing calligraphy on the wall.
Future — the style of letters which refer back to Calligrafuturism.

The process of freehand writing is different from the projects with well-planned sketches. You roam through the wall and balance out each element without the right to make a mistake. It feels like you let go of any control and just move with the flow of the brush. All in all it took me — 20 mins for the whole piece.

МЫ ЭТО НОВАЯ КУЛЬТУРА ПОСТРОЕНА НА ОБЛОМКАХ ИСТОРИИ
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Second piece was created on the floor. Because we had time after finishing the first piece we moved on to the next spot. The marble floor is too smooth to refuse writing on it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The text says “We are a new culture built on the rubble of history”. I chose it based on the location and mix of past history of the building with my modern characters.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Not the best pictures of the finished piece but we had to leave the stadium due to the unexpected visit so didn’t have enough time to shoot it better.

After the first 1/3 of the piece the random guy came and just watched me creating. Then I realized that he’d come back later so I had to speed up even more, the strokes got less accurate and more dirty style.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As I finished the last drip of paint, he returned (obviously) and told us to leave right now or he’d have to call the others. We packed our stuff, took a few shots of the final work and ran away.
