In the game of chess, all the pieces have different worth. The pawn being the weakest, guards the powerful. The powerful pieces always look magnificent. So in my design, I wanted all the pieces to look similar, the only component that differentiates them is the accessory that is placed on top of the piece. When a piece is attacked, the accessory falls, implying that wealth and power mean nothing in front of death. Everyone is equal.
