Sony entered the camera category as a digital camera company. They didn't make a transition from traditional SLR's. And because they did, they understood that they were expanding the possibilities of what we regard as a picture. Digital allowed us to shoot more freely, more spontaneously, and in the process, discover imagery that we might otherwise not capture, if we were counting images on a film roll. We found that there was a picture, and perhaps art, in almost anywhere we could point the camera. Sony brought down walls with both still and video digital cameras.
