Congress and the Indo-Pacific
This chart shows the balance of Congressional focus by region. It covers all foreign policy hearings since 2005:
- 1440 for the House Foreign Affairs Committee &
- 1358 for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee
In the fall of 2011, President Obama announced the pivot (later rebalance) to the Asia-Pacific (later Indo-Pacific). This was one of the few policies that was not reversed by President Trump.
The rebalance was supposed to shift America's focus to the Indo-Pacific. Despite widespread support, not all elements of U.S. power rebalanced.
