2nd Year Studio: Lost Things

2020, Year 2 ‘Koha’ Studio:

Wellington’s BATS Theatre are celebrating 30 years, they are putting on a theatricals season based on Warren Maxwell songs. This project we had to create a transmedia campaign: posters, website (mobile or desktop) and a motion graphic. This project was done with a group of two.

Our transmedia project is about the idea of cherishing memories and discovering what had appeared to be lost. We used the symbolism of a magnifying glass as a finding tool, the painted portraits to symbolise memory and past, and the darkroom full of eyes to create discomfort and a feeling of being lost. Our target audience is young adults in their early 20s because we want to draw in a new audience to come to an event they might not usually attend and introduce them to the work of Warren Maxwell through our interpretation. I think we were able to target our audience by placing our motion graphic on Instagram because lots of people in that age group use Instagram. Also, by having their play ticket being available as a digital ticket it makes it accessible for them to have on the day of the showing, which means that it will always be on-hand because they have their phones with them everywhere. We used eyes as our icon/logo which links to our title ‘Lost Things’ because you use your eyes to find things. For our poster, we used aspects of the shot from the motion graphic where the girl is in the darkroom and there are eyes looking at her but made the eyes in colour so that it represents which paintings the eyes are from and that the title ‘Lost Things’ stands out. For each play description on the website, the idea was inspired by how in real art galleries the description about the painting is next to it on the side.
