Smart Groups (SGs) are Workspace ONE UEM's way of dynamically organizing devices based on properties such as device model, platform, OS version, user groups, etc. This allows admins to assign resources such as apps or management profiles only to desired devices in their organization (e.g. all Apple devices, or all devices on the East Coast user group).

In an effort to improve Smart Groups so that they could filter through more granular device properties and create highly customizable groups to address customer requests, we explored filtering and search not just at the Smart Group level but at a console-wide level.

When thinking about a console-wide search and filter flow, we wanted to keep in mind functionality such as autocomplete, suggested actions and filters, advanced filters, data previews, and cross-product functionality. This resulted in several workflows and diagrams.

I then narrowed down the most important functionality and applied it to Smart Groups specifically since that was the core product area we needed to redesign. From these flows came ideas for use cases to cover and new functionality to add, not just for creating Smart Groups but also for managing them.
