Eva, a "familial" DVD remote control that sits quietly in your home but reaches out to you as you need it. In this remote control project, we were required to anchor an emotion to the design and so we found familial to be the most suitable as we wanted to have a non-obstrusive remote, comfortable visually and physically, reaches out to you slightly such that you find bliss in knowing that it is always there for you.
Design Process
We started off the project by researching on the current dvd remotes in the market and to compare the aspects of it. Then subsequently, we did a moodboard, physicalize the emotions, explored multiple forms, develop on the chosen form, design refinement and lastly made the final prototype of it.
60 Aspects to DVD Remotes
Every single detail of the remotes have been analysed.
Mood Board
Specific pictures of forms have been selected and cropped to express the certain emotion we wish to achieve.
Physical Emotions
We attributed the emotions to the elements of the forms, understanding the core creation of the emotion.
Form Exploration
We did over 600 forms to explore every possibility of an emotion.
Form Refinement
After we have understood the composition of elements that led to our emotion "familial", we did more models to scale.
Design Development
Details were added to better test our models.
Design Refinement
Specific forms were chosen and minor adjustments were made to the details so as to best achieve our emotion.
