Constructed Narratives
(Artifacts of changing times)
A project which aims to reinterpret and visualize a future for indigenous societies and communities living in Pakistan like Makli, Nagarparker, Thatta, Karachi, and Lahore. These fusion pieces celebrate diverse representation, fresh perspectives, and visualization with clearer skies, less light pollution, and more connection with the other worlds.
n exploration of fusion collage technique, a project directed by Ayesha M. Ali the visual artist/ costume designer. The idea was to get inspired by Manolo Ty's architectural images, a German photographer who captured historical sites of Pakistan including the lesser-visited areas.
I got inspired by his documentary-style images and gave them new context by adding my characters featuring costume styling and prop integration with Abayas and Hijabs, a cultural attire with religious connotations which is a part of Muslim culture and therefore Pakistani culture. Due to less representation of abaya as a fashion form, the idea was to create fashion out of Modest clothing and build new narratives, which could otherwise not have been possible to capture in real life. Digital Photography, therefore, became a medium to fuse Manolo's detailed backgrounds with foregrounds showcasing models wearing my designs into one complete juxtaposition.
Previously I have been working with a lot of monochromatic tones, B & W themed multimedia art pieces, with a recent interest in integrating red color more in my work. Red is a color that has a very deep symbology of power, love, danger, blood, and earth. The project is fused with a third layer of fusion, which is the unexplored world of dark skies and millions of galaxies.
