I started with looking at the existing labeling for the seed collections using a kelp illustrationthat I sourced
from the 1700's. I could get away with it, but I really felt we needed to treat fertilizer in more in keeping with medicinal tonics from the 1800's. Not only would this be more interesting visually but it also said more
about the product - fertilizer makes plants flourish.
I was able to take a portion of the original illustration and rework it to fit the space. The great thing
about working with kelp it that it naturally flows so it is easy to adapt to the shape needed. I also have a
strong illustration background and have worked with numerous botanicals from the 1400s-1900s which
gives me the ability to mimic the original artist.
This is literally what I started with. 100% pure liquified kelp. mmm yummy (not).
