Graduation Project 2021
Supervised By: Prof. Dr. Mohamed Reda Abdallah, T.A. Moataz Hassanein

Introduction
The project was inspired by the historic agriculture water wheels or “Saqiyah”. The paddle or animal-driven Saqiyah formed a big part of the agricultural identity and life of peasants in Egypt, as they were used to lift the water of from the Nile to agriculture lands. The Saqiyah was later developed to become a hydro-powered machine that is not only used for irrigation, but also for supplying villages with drinking water. That’s when it was introduced to other countries like Syria and Jordan, and was named “Noria”, which is derived from the Arabic verb meaning to "groan" or "grunt", in reference to the sound it made when turning.

Concept Statement
A community - oriented business hub that rewinds to the lost heritage of Al Warraq, and bridges the gap created due to its unused land and water potentials,  through re-imagining the historic Noria which forms a big part of the agricultural identity, creating a shelter for business investments.
