Northern Kenya has since independence, been neglected from any form of development, leaving the vast majority of the locals in absolute poverty. This coupled with the harsh semi-desert environment has led to even greater social-economic divide as compared to the rest of the country. In recent times, the regions have earned the public eye due to discovery of oil fields as well as infrastructure that has exposed the touristic potential of the region. The community project in Lokwii, aims to provide an avenue for locals to improve upon their skills to be equipped for the inevitable economic boom the region is to go through. Simple, sustainable and localized architectural strategies are key to the execution of the project.
