Village in Shenzhen
Urban villages refer to the traditional villages that remain in urban areas and are a unique phenomenon in the urbanization process of mainland China. In the 30 years since the reform and opening up of China in 1978, the built-up areas of some economically developed regions have expanded rapidly, and the rural areas that were previously located around the cities have been incorporated into the urban landscape and surrounded by high-rise buildings in a row, becoming "villages in the city".
