The concept of this design was based on Kurt Cobain's T-shirt with the quote “grunge is dead”.
The quote, which implies that grunge is dead, is often referenced while talking about the grunge genre because some people believe that when grunge icons such as Kurt Cobain, Chris Cornell and Layne Staley (artists illustrated in this design) passed away, the genre died because there are no current bands that are at the same level.
For this reason, I wanted to play with the words from the quote and imply that grunge is actually not dead. Although their singers are not alive today, icon grunge bands such as Nirvana, Soundgarden and Alice In Chains continue to inspire many current bands and continue to have an impact on society that will last for many more years to come.
In regards to language, I used a type of illustration that refers to the typical style used by skate brands such as Santa Cruz or Vans, since in the 90's the Grunge genre had skaters as a large audience. Also, I decided to illustrate them with zombie details to imply that even if the bands or singers are no longer around, their music is more alive than ever.
El concepto de este diseño se basó en la remera de Kurt Cobain con la frase “grunge is dead”.
La frase, que implica que el grunge está muerto, es a menudo referenciada debido a que algunas personas creen que al fallecer los íconos del grunge como Kurt Cobain, Chris Cornell y Layne Staley (artistas ilustrados en este diseño) el género murió y que no hay bandas actuales que estén al mismo nivel. Debido a eso, quise hacer un juego con las palabras de la frase e implicar que el grunge no esta muerto ya que aunque sus cantantes no estén vivos actualmente, las bandas íconos del grunge como Nirvana, Soundgarden y Alice In Chains siguen siendo inspiración para muchas bandas actuales y siguen teniendo repercusión en la sociedad y la tendrán por muchos años más.
Con respecto al lenguaje, utilicé una ilustración que referencia al estilo típico utilizado por marcas de skates como Santa Cruz o Vans ya que en los 90's el estilo Grunge tenía como un gran público a los jóvenes skaters. También, decidí ilustrarlos con detalles de zombies para implicar esto de que si bien las bandas o los cantantes no están más, su música sigue más viva que nunca.
