BioLite CampStove
BioLite’s founders met at Smart Design in New York City where they quickly bonded over their interest in the outdoors and sustainable design. Alec, frustrated that almost all efficient camping stoves required fossil fuels, had the idea of creating a wood-burning stove able to utilize its own thermal energy to improve combustion. Jonathan, an avid camper, quickly brought his engineering background to the table and the two began the design process. Countless nights, weekends, and prototypes later, the BioLite CampStove was born: a portable biomass stove that leverages thermoelectrics to create a smokeless fire all while charging personal devices.

BioLite’s patented combustion technology captures waste heat from the fire and converts it into electricity via a thermoelectric generator which powers a fan and sends electricity to a USB charging port providing devices with 3W of usable electricity. Excess power is stored in the internal 3200mAh battery. The internal fan uses this power to inject air back into the burn chamber dramatically improving combustion and creating a smokeless and more efficient wood fire. A smart LED dashboard gives users real time feedback on fire strength, power output, and fan speed. The stove collapses down into roughly the size of a nalgene water bottle making it portable for campers on the go. The CampStove easily becomes a complete off grid kitchen when paired with BioLite’s Kettle Pot or Grill.
