The scenography of Shakespeare’s tragedy of Macbeth induced the invironment of darkness, control, and emotional intensity. It historically connects to the experience of the Piccolo Studio in Milan. The size of Piccolo Studio is relatively small, seating for about 250 peaple, with an oval shaped horseshoe plan. The shape of the scenography is a thought as a complementary feature for the theatre.
Interpreting that Macbeth’s ambition is fueled by external sources, the play can be analogous to the way a puppet master and his puppet performance. If the “puppet” is held in the strings of the scenography set. Replicating this constant change, the scenography set seeks to become an operable mechanism where it can be controlled to induce the atmosphere throughout the play.
The scenography set is a steel system where it suspends a set of operable strings (glass-fiber cables). The strings evolve to create numerous moods based on the play’s intention. As the play progress, the strings shange the environment, morphology of the acting stage, and become obstacles, regulating accessories, or indicators of “experienced duration”.
