Developing the light streak look
Our aim was to give the Escalade an elegant non-physical look to match the classiness of the Cadillac branding. We wanted to avoid the overdone wireframe style, and instead sought something light based and subtle.
I created this look by locking the camera on a side view of the car in Cinema 4D and rendering out lots of passes. The variation came from selecting different parts of the car, sometimes using loop selection and creating splines from these lines, and also mapping interesting textures wrapping around the car in different ways. Then I combined those passes and explored with different ways of compositing them in Photoshop and AE. After that I brought the new comp back into C4D and projected it onto the car as a camera-mapped texture, and then I generated UV coordinates from that projection to make the texture stick to the car. I did this several times and created lots of different looks until we landed on one we were happy with.
