Parts & Labour
Parts & Labour is a creative studio with a roster of award-winning artists and directors. Currently based in Los Angeles, New York, and Toronto.
With the aim of fostering stronger connections between producers and directors, we undertook the task of developing the visual identity for Parts & Labour. In this process, we conceptualized each of them as 'a link in the chain' - positioning the wordmark, producers', and directors' names on an equal footing to ensure they all share the same visual impact.
To resonate with the industrial aesthetic inherent in the name Parts & Labour and evoke the graphic style of old American posters, we deliberately paired two slightly different grotesque fonts to add tension in each layout—an older one, in its extended version, and a more recent one, in its classic form. We also introduced a script font as a supportive element, adding a further layer of authenticity to our design approach.
The softness of the color palette contrasts with the boldness of our typographic approach while harmoniously coexisting with the works of each director. This approach ensures that the visual identity always reflects the collaborative essence of Parts & Labour.
