Distance to Breathe is a thought-provoking piece, designed as a critique of relationships in a hypothetical dystopian future in which pollution and disease are rife. Two individuals are confined within a system of both tension and collaboration, limited only to the basic necessities for survival.
Ergonomic masks hold them fixed in place, apart, allowing them to breathe only if they maintain the required distance. This is a world in which technology has become an extension of oneself, and the masks’ exoskeletons are designed to resemble human spines. The piece asks—have we lost our distance to breathe?
