Sakata Repackaging

The aim of this project was to repackage Sakata rice crackers in a more sustainable and user friendly way. Their existing package consists of a plastic tray holding the crackers and a plastic foil as an outer airtight seal. To me this seemed excessive and unnecessary especially as neither the tray or the outer foil is recyclable. Other problems with the existing package was the fact that once you took the tray out of the foil wrap, it was very hard to get it back in if you didn’t want to eat the whole pack in one sitting.
With this new packaging each row of crackers is packaged separately in tinfoil and then wrapped in recycled card. This makes it easier for consumers to just eat one row. It also makes it easier to throw in a bag for a snack and then rest of the crackers don't go stale.
This design is a huge change from the original package and I think it would stand out on supermarket shelves as the majority of rice crackers are packaged in a very similar way.
