I was invited by Chinese College to create a digital artwork for the 2021 Zodiac Design Project. Subsequently my work was exhibited in two museums in Shanghai and Weihai, China.

The zodiac Cow or Ox is the second of the 12-year cycle of animals which appear in the Chinese zodiac related to the Chinese calendar. The Chinese term translated here as ox is in Chinese niú (), a word generally referring to cows and other types of the bovine family. Gold symbolizes wealth and riches in Chinese culture, which is the same in Western culture. In ancient China, the circle was an important cultural symbol. It represents harmony, the balance of the yin and yang and the duality of nature.

In my artwork I wanted to show a positive image that invokes good emotions. This zodiacal cow or ox is made of multiple layers, a 3D like structure that to the viewers can look like as if it has a volume and you can almost touch it. Golden outline flows around the edges of the cow. In my research I’ve found that gold symbolizes wealth in Chinese culture, whereas red symbolizes luck, joy, and happiness. The circle is an important symbol that represents harmony. That’s why the whole composition by means of these waves symbolizes happiness and harmony.
