Dear Diary / My road

illustrated project
Dear Diary or My Road

This is my diploma project, a book comprised of illustrations depicting my life from the time I moved to Bratislava and the subsequent 4 years I have spent living there. It is an open invitation for the viewer to see my life experiences as I saw them myself, and take something away from it.

...

My mental state at the time of departure, the first illustration is done with oil paint on news paper, and the second one is done with some digital manipulation.

Bratislava as I saw it, full of hills and valleys.

My life in the dormitories, it was quite chaotic. Roommates getting drunk, mushrooms growing under the table, and just an all around messy environment.

A little background of when I was little, bombs were falling from the sky, and that left a strong impression on me, and on the right side is a very common situation I found myself in: When crossing the Serbian-Hungarian border, the first pitstop would serve as the "last frontier" of Balkan culture; everybody was smoking and having a chit-chat, and on one occasion a rat fell out of the ceiling, and nobody batten an eye.

My national identity has never been an issue until I migrated, all these labels were put on me and people asked ridiculous questions such as: "Do you have internet in Serbia?" This was quite frustrating for me.

I went to Greece as part of an exchange program and it really helped me settle in my thoughts and emotions.

My mind has been through a lot, and as a result has strengthen. I fell in love with philosophy and politics, and that played a huge role in forming the person I am today.

The exhibition of the whole project. I have not included all the illustrations that are in the book, but these are some of the highlights.
...

I hope you enjoyed this project, and I wish you a wonderful day!
